One storyline continues to get weirder for the New England Patriots.

After it was reported that Matt Corral was joining the Patriots practice squad, it now appears the quarterback will not return to Foxborough, the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed reportsMassLive's Mark Daniels confirmed the report.

The Patriots waived Corral from the reserve/left squad list on Monday.

Corral was claimed off waivers at the end of August after New England opted to waive quarterbacks Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham on cutdown day, with the former Panther joining Mac Jones on the active roster.

However, prior to the season opener, he was placed on the reserve/left squad list after he reportedly left the Patriots without notice. This meant that he was removed from the 53-man roster, but could not sign with another team. The Patriots could choose to activate him, but they would first have to clear a roster spot.

Soon after, Bill Belichick confirmed that the team had been in contact with the quarterback, but he remained on the list. It was Bailey Zappe who was moved up to the 53-man roster and served as the back up to Mac Jones.

This was been an odd saga between Corral and the Patriots, but it seems to have come to an end with this latest move.

New England is still in need of an additional quarterback on the practice squad, with Jones and Zappe serving as the only two on the roster at the moment.
