The New England Patriots have a young quarterback in Mac Jones, but there’s still a haze of uncertainty around the future of that position for the organization.

Jones had a relatively phenomenal rookie season for the Patriots, but his production and efficiency dropped off without Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator. There’s hope that he can recover in 2023 with Bill O’Brien at offensive coordinator, but it’s still no guarantee.

There’s also been murmurs that McDaniels might want to trade for Jones and bring him to the Las Vegas Raiders. A deal seems unlikely, but when you combine that report with the news that New England met with Florida QB prospect Anthony Richardson at the NFL Scouting Combine, it does make you wonder what exactly is going on at quarterback with the Patriots.

On this week’s Pats Chat Podcast, Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley discuss how the Patriots could take a creative approach at developing young, cheap quarterbacks. They discuss two pieces of non-news of the week, Jakobi Meyers’ future as he heads into free agency, prospects who caught their eye at the combine and more.
