For Andres Borregales, it almost seemed like fate that he was selected by the New England Patriots.

"I'm excited," Borregales told reporters after being drafted. "All my life, I looked up to Adam Vinatieri, a legend, honestly. Especially all those kicks in the snow and clutch kicks in the snow, actually. I can't wait to experience that."

Borregales attended high school and college in Florida, so making the move to New England is very different in terms of weather. But after watching Vinatieri make those kicks in the snow, he's ready to prove anyone who doubts his abilities in these conditions wrong.

"I know a lot of people thought that, obviously being from Miami, I can't handle the cold," he added. "I think I can prove people wrong about that.

And he's not just familiar with Vinatieri. When a reporter brought up Stephen Gostkowski and Nick Folk too, it was clear that Borregales knew the history in New England .

"I feel like the Patriots are honestly a good line of legendary kickers," he said. "You named three of them. I'm excited to hopefully one day be part of that conversation and contribute to this organization."

Borregales will now come in and compete for the role with John Parker Romo, who he actually knows well.

"We trained with the same coach, Adam Tanalski. I'm good friends with him," Borregales revealed. "I'm excited to get in there and we'll compete, and may the best man win. At the end of the day, that's still my guy."

The kicking competition will be an interesting one to watch, but based on Borregales' success in college combined with the Patriots wanting to use a draft pick on him rather than risking him going undrafted, makes it clear who is expected to be on the roster when the season begins.

But, as Borregales said, "may the best man win."
