The New England Patriots have lost a key member of the defensive line.
ESPN's Mike Reiss reports that defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale suffered a torn bicep in Sunday's win over the New York Jets.
Reiss added that the Patriots are still waiting on more tests, but it appears they will be without Ekuale.
The defensive tackle injured his left arm in the second quarter and was announced as questionable to return with an elbow injury. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game soon after.
He has played 53 defensive snaps for New England this season, and an additional 12 on special teams. He recorded three total tackles along with one forced fumble in the first three games of the season.
Ekuale began his career with the Cleveland Browns, signing as an undrafted free agent in 2018. After two seasons there, he went to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a season, but was waived as part of roster cuts prior to the 2021 season.
He joined the Patriots in 2021, and across three seasons he has recorded a total of 22 tackles, four sacks, and one forced fumble in 25 games played.
In light of the injury, the Patriots could potentially look to bring back a familiar face, with Carl Davis having been released prior to the start of the season. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks practice squad, but he's familiar with the system and could be a solid candidate to replace Ekuale.
