For the second day in a row, the New England Patriots and one veteran player have agreed to a contract extension.
Ian Rapoport reports that the Patriots and Ja'Whaun Bentley agreed to a new contract extension on a two-year, $18.75 million max deal, $9 Million of which is guaranteed.
This comes after the Patriots and receiver DeVante Parker agreed to a contract extension on Wednesday.
Bentley was entering a contract year, but was rewarded for his efforts last year, coming off the best season of his career.
Across 17 games, Bentley recorded 125 total tackles with three sacks, one interception, and a fumble recovery in his fifth year in New England.
With Devin McCourty retiring after last season, Bentley's leadership is needed even more and the linebacker has been praised by his teammates often for his guidance in the locker room.
Parker's deal was said to have possible opened up some cap space, and MassLive's Mark Daniels reports that Bentley's deal will also "clear more money on the Patriots 2023 salary cap."
The additional cap space may allow for the Patriots to make a big signing in the coming weeks, with DeAndre Hopkins rumors still circulating.
Bentley has been with the Patriots since he was drafted in the fifth round (143rd overall pick) in the 2018 NFL Draft.
James White showed his support and excitement for his former teammate, reposting Rapoport's tweet while writing, "Yessir!!"
