The rumors about Tom Brady joining the New York Jets have officially ended.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports that the Jets "will not be inquiring with Brady about any interest in a return to football." And she added that Brady has also made it clear that his playing days are over.

After Aaron Rodgers suffered a a complete tear of his left Achilles tendon on Monday night in the Jets season opening win over the Buffalo Bills, there was a question of who would lead the team for the rest of the season.

However, Robert Saleh's press conference on Tuesday combined with this latest report proves that the Jets are sticking with Zach Wilson as their starter and are looking to bring in a veteran quarterback to serve as the backup.

"I want to make it very clear, Zach's our quarterback," Saleh said. "We have a lot of faith in Zach. We're rolling with Zach and excited for him."

Among their search for a veteran quarterback, one name that came up was former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, with his agent having reached out to the Jets. However, CBS Sports' Josina Anderson reports that the Jets aren't pursing Kaepernick.

One of the best options available is Joe Flacco, who played with the Jets last season. His connection with head coach Robert Saleh and Wilson make him a prime candidate to add to the roster.

Rodgers was entering his first season with the Jets after being traded from the Packers this offseason. New York then brought in a lot of help for Rodgers, with many believing them to be true Super Bowl contenders.

Their path to the playoffs has just become a lot tougher with the recent news, but Saleh has made sure to state that, he doesn't "get why people are putting an obituary on our team name."

They are now looking to prove the doubters wrong.
