Patriots confirm HC Bill Belichick skipping NFL Scouting Combine
Belichick joins a growing trend among NFL head coaches
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has elected to forego his annual trip to Indianapolis.
The Patriots confirmed to reporters on the scene that Belichick will not attend this year's NFL Scouting Combine. The news first was reported by The Athletic's Chad Graff.
The Patriots will be represented by front office staff plus wide receivers coach Troy Brown, cornerbacks coach Mike Pellegrino and special teams coaches Cam Achord and Joe Houston, The Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan reported.
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay are also not attending the combine.
The combine serves as a chance for NFL teams to meet with and gather valuable medical records on draft prospects. It also serves as a networking event for NFL reporters, coaches, scouts and executives. Belichick is typically one of the most famous and recognizable people in attendance. It makes sense if he’d like to skip the fraternization and get work done away from the NFL hub. It’s still notable to see the longtime head coach skip the combine for perhaps the first time in his head coaching career.
