Javon Baker was involved at the beginning of Sunday's loss to the Rams, but after one play, he was no longer on the field field.

The New England Patriots have been using the rookie receiver primarily on special teams for kick off returns.

He had two in the first half, but afterwards, he was no where to be found.

On Monday morning, A to Z Sports asked head coach Jerod Mayo if this was because he was benched

"So, on the kick returns, he was back there the first couple of snaps, and he didn't execute the way that we all had hoped he would," Mayo revealed. "I know it was a big return. Even on that big return, it was one of those situations where, ‘Is he coming out, is he not coming out?’ and same thing with the second kickoff return.

On Baker's first return, he managed to get 49 yards, bringing the ball out to the Patriots 45.

But on the next one, he muffed it. Baker quickly recovered the ball and began running out, even attempting to hurdle a Rams player. But he was only able to get 16 yards on the return.

After the game, A to Z Sports asked if he was told why he was benched.

"I don't know," he said. "That's something for the coaches.

He further explained that nothing specific was every conveyed to him.

Along with three kickoff returns this season, Baker has been on the field for 19 offensive snaps but has yet to record a catch.
