The New England Patriots' biggest hole on the roster remains left tackle heading into the 2024 NFL Draft
And on Monday at the 2025 Annual NFL League Meetings, the first question head coach Mike Vrabel was asked was what his plans are currently at left tackle.
Many thought they would address this in free agency, but they were only able to fix one side, bringing in starting right tackle Morgan Moses.
So, what's he going to do now?
"The plan is to continue to evaluate our roster and see who's there that we can continue to work there," Vrabel explained. "We're going to bring the players in on April 7.
And with that, there's one second-year tackle that Vrabel sees as a possibility to play on the left side.
"I think that Caedan (Wallace) is certainly going to get an opportunity there as the roster is currently constructed," he added. "And Vederian (Lowe's) going to be coming back and he had a procedure."
Wallace primarily played at right tackle at Penn State, but when he joined the Patriots, he was mainly used as a XL tight end. However, in October, it was announced that Wallace would be placed on injured reserve, cutting his rookie season short. While he was activated at the end of December, New England never got a real opportunity to see what he could do.
"Caedan, they were trying to do that with the XL tight end. And he was doing a nice job. He was playing physical, doing a nice job, and then got injured. And by all accounts, worked extremely hard through the process to, one, get back, but also to train while he was out," Vrabel said. "So, looking forward to working with him and we're only going to evaluate what we see going forward. We don't care how you got here, we just care about what you do going forward. So, whatever they are coming in there, we'll evaluate them, we'll work with them, and we'll try to have a role or a vision for them."
But of course, there is also the draft.
The Patriots hold the fourth overall pick, along with eight other selections. So, New England has numerous opportunities to address this.
"I think the draft is going to be a good option for us," Vrabel said. "There's a lot of guys in the draft that we like at a lot of different levels. I'm confident between now and when the seasons starts that we're going to have something we believe in and a plan that's going to help us."
