After the loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, there was one silver lining that the New England Patriots could take away.
And that's that they currently hold the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Patriots are followed by the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, and New York Giants all with the same 2-7 record.
A to Z Sports' Draft expert Jon Helmkamp provided some insight into what the Patriots might do if they hold on to this pick by the time the season ends.
"If the Pats are unlucky enough to luck into the first overall pick, they’ll be primed to trade down. Miami quarterback Cam Ward continues to build hype as a Heisman front runner and as the best quarterback in the country, and could see his stock rise enough that a quarterback-needy team would be willing to move up to the first overall pick to take him. The Patriots would absolutely listen, being willing to move back, address the offensive line, and stockpile assets to build around the promising rookie quarterback they already have in Drake Maye."
Many mock drafts have had the Patriots selected Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter, because of the team's need for more weapons for quarterback Drake Maye.
However, it's also very clear that they need a help on the offensive line, specifically at the tackle position.
So trading down does seem the most likely. They can give the pick to a quarterback-needy team, while getting a nice return.
