Mac Jones is reportedly on a "tight leash" this week, so if he doesn't step up, fans will get to see another quarterback in the pocket for the New England Patriots.

Bailey Zappe hasn't lived up to the hope when he has come in to replace Jones the past two games, so Will Grier might have a shot. They are just signed Malik Cunningham to the 53-man roster off the practice squad.

We're just going to have to wait to see what happens.

3 Patriots players to watch

  • QB Malik Cunningham

The newest addition to the 53-man roster, Malik Cunningham is expected to have a role in Sunday's game against the Raiders. Cunningham showed promise in the preseason, and with Mac Jones' recent struggles, many have been speculating if we will see the undrafted free agent rookie this season. The answer: yes. But it might not be in the way that many are expecting.

  • QB Mac Jones

After being benched in the last two games, Jones has a lot to prove in this game. And it's become clear that if he gets off to a slow start once again, there are three others on the roster who are prepared to step in.

  • WR Tyquan Thornton

Making his return from injured reserve, Thornton is expected to make his season debut on Sunday. This provides Jones with a much-needed weapon who provides unmatched speed. He will also be helpful as Demario Douglas and JuJu Smith-Schuster are out with concussions.
