Demario Douglas, Patriots Training Camp 2023

Demario Douglas was once viewed as a long shot to make the roster, but not anymore.

The New England Patriots rookie has impressed since joining the team, being drafted in the sixth round (210th overall pick) of the 2023 NFL Draft. And it's clear that he is taking advantage of every opportunity

So much so that the Patriots defense has taken note of the young receivers skill.

Following Monday's training camp session, defensive back Jabrill Peppers was asked about if he and the other defensemen have noticed Douglas during the team drills.

His answer: "Oh yeah, we've noticed him."

"He's out there making plays. Same thing you guys are seeing, but we saw it early on in OTAs," Peppers said. "But what surprised me the most is his physicality. He's a smaller guy, but he's tough as nails, so I think that'll bode well for him."

Douglas has been moved around a lot since coming to Foxborough, spending most of the day on Sunday practicing punt returns. However, he doesn't see this as a bad thing, instead focused on making himself more versatile, wanting to expand his abilities beyond just a receiver.

"In my opinion, first year in the system, kind of moving him inside, outside. Doing a lot of things with him," Peppers said. "And he's handling it pretty well. So, I'm hoping the best for him."

It's clear the Douglas is a high possibility to earn a spot on the 53-man roster, with Bill Belichick saying that he "had a good spring." While he won't openly admit it, it seems the Patriots coach is a fan of the late-round draft pick.

And so is Peppers.

"He's going to make our guys better and we're going to make him better."
