The Patriots coaching staff will look completely different next season
So with that, Jerod Mayo has his hands full the next few months, filling those openings at offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and special teams coordinator.
And while he has conducted interviews for two of the positions, he is getting started on one key opening. And he is looking at a familiar face.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots have scheduled an interview with Rams tight end coach Nick Caley for the offensive coordinator job opening.
Caley also interviewed with the New York Jets and Houston Texans last season, but ended up joining the Rams staff.
However, that name might sound familiar as he spent time with the Patriots from 2015 to 2022.
Caley started by serving as an offensive assistant for two seasons in New England, but was promoted to tight ends coach in 2017. In 2020 they added fullbacks coach to his title for two seasons. In 2022 he remained the tight ends coach, but was forced to watch as Matt Patricia and Joe Judge led the offense. And that didn't turn out very well.
So with that, he left for sunny Los Angeles before the 2023 season in the same position.
But now he is finally getting a shot at offensive coordinator with the team where he got his first shot in the NFL.
This is the first interview Mayo reportedly has scheduled for this position, but expect more in the coming days. But Caley is the perfect person to start with for their search.
