FOXBOROUGH, Mass – When Joshua Dobbs first met Drake Maye, the New England Patriots second-year quarterback made a very strong first impression.

The two were at the NFLPA's golf event in Cancun, Mexico in April, and Maye proved that he's one heck of an athlete.

“He can hit the crap out of it with his driver,” Dobbs told reporters on Tuesday. “So it’s good to get a chance to meet each other outside of the football environment. Put a face with a name, and start talking ball and get to know each other. And, just being in the building, the kid loves football. It’s really good to be around that every morning, coming in (with his) high spirit.

And when asked how Dobbs could tell Maye loves football, the veteran quarterback didn't hold back.

"He's always very curious. This is obviously his second scheme that he's had, and to see the questions that he asks, his engagement each day within the QB room and his preparation coming into the room," Dobbs added. "Like you always tell who loves football and who loves the learning aspect of it, and he definitely does that."

Dobbs was brought in to serve as the veteran presence in the quarterback room, but Maye is also already showing that he's a leader.

"Drake's been awesome, kind of showing me around inside and outside the building," he said. "It's been good to hit the ground running."

But on the other side of things, Dobbs has also already been stepping up and helping Maye make the jump from Year 1 to Year 2 following a very promising rookie campaign.

“I’m able to provide pointers from things I’ve seen in the past, how to quickly pick up an offense, and go out execute it,” Dobbs detailed “It’s been a great dynamic, and we’re going to enjoy working together.”
