FOXBORO, Mass. — After becoming a free agent in the offseason, JuJu Smith-Schuster wasn't sure who he was going to play for this season.

However, he ended up signing a three-year, $33 million contract with the New England Patriots.

So why is that?

On Wednesday, Smith-Schuster answered that question, providing the main reason for his decision.

“When they got OB. When they got Bill O’Brien it was kind of like a no brainer," Smith-Schuster said. "Just because I know how this system is and how it works and how he works the offense and Belichick as he is, as a head coach. And to bring OB in and to bring Mike and all those other guys, all these key pieces, it was kind of like wow it’s a great fit for me.”

The Patriots hired O'Brien in January after the Patriots clearly struggled last season without an offensive coordinator. This is his second stint with the New England, having been with the team from 2007 to 2011.

And it's clear that he is motivating this offense to compete to the fullest.

“He’s a smart OC. I love his coaching style," Smith-Schuster said. "And he’s one of the guys that, he’s one of those dudes that you want to play hard for him. He’s doing his best to put us all in the right spot and it’s nice.”

Smith-Schuster is just one of many who are impressed with the offense since O'Brien took over, with members of the defense saying it's difficult to go up against them, but also makes them better.

Since training camp began, Smith-Schuster has been a clear fan favorite, with the crowd cheering when he gets a catch and fans even making signs for him.
