FOXBORO, Mass. — Kendrick Bourne didn't mince his words on Sunday following the 10th Training Camp session.
The New England Patriots are certainly underdogs this season, competing in one of the toughest divisions. But Bourne wants to make sure that nobody is counting out the Patriots just yet.
“We’ve got a lot of doubters, so we have a lot to prove, and I’m excited, man,” Bourne said. “It’s good to be the underdogs sometimes because they don’t know we’re coming.”
And he even took a dig at one reporter, who publicly voiced his doubts earlier in training camp.
The Boston Sports Journal's Mike Giardi was a guest on NBC Sports Boston and was asked about what he's seen from the Patriots wide receivers so far during camp. And Giardi didn't hold back.
"Stink, stank, and stunk," he said.
And clearly Kendrick Bourne saw that clip, repeating that exact phrase when he was asked about his thoughts on the wide receiver room following training camp on Sunday.
Fellow receiver DeVante Parker responded to a tweet about Bourne's remarks, writing "LMAO he funny af for that" with a laughing face emoji.
But for Bourne, it's easy to see what this would also be personal.
Bourne had a disappointing season last year, playing in 16 games with only 35 receptions for 434 yards and one touchdown. This came after he set a career high with 55 catches and 800 receiving yards during the 2021 season.
So along with the Patriots looking to prove everybody wrong, he is also aiming to improve and show people what he is capable of.
