Under the direction of Bill Belichick, the New England Patriots have won six Super Bowl championships. Yet, the team's recent struggles have led to many saying that his time in Foxborough should come to an end.

However, one Patriots legend who won three Super Bowls with the long-time coach showed complete faith in Belichick.

Matt Light's comments on these rumors are simple: "I want him to coach as long as he wants to coach."

"He's trying to figure it out more than anyone else," Light said when speaking on The Greg Hill Show on WEEI. "As much as we want to sit here and judge what he's doing, he's doing the same thing."

After Tom Brady decided to leave following the 2020 season, the Patriots have shown a steady decline, with the 2023 season being the worst. However, he has been able to do so much during his time and one season doesn't erase the success he had for so many years in New England.

"If Bill spent 10 more seasons as the Patriots head coach and they were all subpar. Like they weren't above .500. It was a struggle each year, it wouldn't change the way that I feel about how he approaches it," Light explained. "I was in that system for 11 seasons. I understand how he does things. I always was amazed by it. Didn't always like it, didn't always appreciate it, but definitely understand what he does and what he represents."

And the former Patriots offensive tackle pinpointed one of the main issues that has plagued the team in recent years. And it is truly showing this season.

"I don't think he has the same personnel in terms of coaches, the people that are in some of these positions to go out and look for talent," Light said. "He's lacking in several areas and I don't know if he's trying to do it all himself (or) he's not trusting bringing in new bodies. I'm not sure what the overall issue is, but he's got to get it figured out.

A member of the Patriots Hall of Fame, Light spent his entire 11-year career with the Patriots, being drafted in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft.

And he isn't the only former Patriots who has voiced his confidence in Belichick, with Devin McCourty also standing up for him during an appearance on WEEI.

No one knows what will happen next, but Light's stance on the matter is very clear.

"I'll always respect him for what he does and how he's done it for the end of time," Light said. "The man's done enough for me to trust what he's doing and hope the best for him."
