Mac Jones, Patriots training camp

FOXBORO, Mass. — It was no secret that both Bill Belichick and Mac Jones were not happy with how things went last season. And because of that, it seemed to cause some tension.

However this is a new season, and the two are looking to just move forward.

“I think we’re good,” Jones said about his relationship with Belichick. “The biggest thing that we’ve all talked about is having a fresh start. I think there’s a lot of learning experiences from last year that we talked about and this year it’s all just working together.”

That "fresh start" was apparent, with New England bringing in Bill O'Brien to run the offense after the failed experiment of Matt Patricia and Joe Judge leading the way did not work last season. While Judge remains with the team, he is working primarily with special teams.

As for Belichick, with a true offensive coordinator this season, he was able to float around during practice jumping from the defense to the offense and even special teams at times.

"Yeah, I think he's done a great job. I think at the end of the day he does a great job explaining defenses and all those things that can help a quarterback, and especially in the red zone because it's a little bit tighter down there," Jones said. "But yeah, I think OB does a great job as well explaining everything, and Evan. So it's kind of those three guys that you can lean on and obviously the players too, right? You can ask the players questions, and I think it's great that our defense is really good and it makes it hard. It's gonna be a great camp because we're gonna go back and forth hopefully, and just battle with each other."

For the Patriots to be successful this upcoming season, it is key that Jones and Belichick are on the same page and no longer have any bad blood between the two.

And at this moment, all signs show that the past is in the past and the focus is on improving and getting back to New England's winning ways.
