When Mac Jones was drafted by the New England Patriots in the 2021 NFL Draft, the team was in desperate need of a quarterback after losing Tom Brady.

While they had a short-term solution, Jones was believed to be the long-term one and had genuine things to say when asked about Brady following Wednesday's joint practice with the Green Bay Packers.

“I think Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback to ever play in the NFL,” Jones said. “So to follow him, it’s just trying to chase the standard that he set every day."

Jones further acknowledged that they are "two different players."

However, another quarterback who is going through a similar change is Jordan Love, who had to step in after Aaron Rodgers left to join the New York Jets. And Jones was asked to provide some advice for him, having gone through this himself.

"That’s the only advice I’d have: Just continue to grow and be yourself, right? That’s all you can do," Jones said. "Put your best foot forward and compete. But yeah, it’s definitely big shoes to fill.”

What Brady was able to achieve while with the Patriots is cemented in history, and he left big shoes to fill when he left.

However, Jones is focused on what he can bring this team.

“I got drafted like three years ago, so it’s just trying to move on from that part of it,” Jones said, “and understanding how you can set the standard that he had already set, you know? For us it’s just, every year is a new year. You’ve gotta go out and earn it. He did that every year. And I’m going to continue to do that as well.”
