Let's get into your questions in this mailbag.

Chris Berry

After a tough Week One loss, how do you think the Patriots respond against Miami to help make sure they don’t fall too far behind in the division this early on?

Sunday night's matchup against the Miami Dolphins is going to be crucial for the Patriots. New England showed that they are a competitive football team, coming back from a 16-0 deficit in the first quarter and almost finding a way to win the game against the reigning NFC Champions. While Foxborough is known for its crazier weather, Sunday's conditions were really hard for the players who had to play in downpours. That made the ball harder to catch, which we saw with some dropped passes early in the game.

There are a few different things the Patriots are going to have to do against a strong Dolphins squad, but that is going to have to start with shutting down Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Jaylen Waddle. Tagovailoa threw for 466 yards and three touchdowns in the Dolphins 36-34 win over the Las Angeles Chargers. Hill caught two of those touchdowns, finishing with 215 yards across 11 receptions.

As for the offense, they need to take advantage of each opportunity – especially the ones where they start in prime field position. New England had two chances to win the game on Sunday, but couldn't get into the end zone.

It's going to be a true team effort, and despite being viewed as underdogs by many, this is a winnable game for the Patriots.

Is JuJu better than Jakobi Meyers or did Bill Belichick let him go because he stood up for Mac Jones last year?

The thing with the Patriots depth chart this season is that they have numerous receivers that they go to in different situations. Similarly, with Matt Patricia out as the play caller and Bill O'Brien hired as the offensive coordinator, Kendrick Bourne has taken a bigger role in the offense and as one of Mac Jones' top targets. Because of that, Jakobi Meyers wouldn't have gotten as many targets as he probably would have wanted, whereas with the Raiders he is their top receiver on the depth chart.

Doug Somers

Should NE get an extension done with Kendrick Bourne sooner rather than later?

Currently on the last year of his three-year deal with the Patriots, I do think New England could look to lock up Kendrick Bourne and work towards an extension, but I would be surprised if it happened so early in the season. Because of all the struggles last season and with his limited targets, this is truly Bourne's year to thrive and shown himself, and if he does just that the Patriots will begin those talks.

What do you think about Mac Jones' arm strength/pass velocity on throws downfield -+20 or greater from the line of scrimmage?

Mac Jones has the arm and has the receivers to throw those long passes. The season opener wasn't a good way to show this due to the weather, but it was certainly apparent during training camp.

Darin Hudson

Who is the new OL coach for the team and did he learn under Scarnecchia?

Adrian Klemm is the Patriots new offensive line coach, having played from New England from 2000 to 2004. Because of that, he overlapped with Dante Scarnecchia who served as the Patriots assistant head coach and offensive line coach.  Following his playing career, he then went into coaching, so it's safe to say he probably picked up on some things from Scarnecchia as the two won three Super Bowls together with New England.

When is Mac Jones going to carry the team on his back and win a game they're not supposed to win.

Mac Jones was very hard on himself after Sunday's loss and while there were things he could have done better, I don't believe people are giving him enough credit. Jones threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns in the loss, and it could have been more, but some of the receivers had some dropped passes due to the rain. His response after the game shows that he has already put the team on his back and is capable of helping lead the team to many wins this season, but it can't just be on him. The rest of the team has to play a part too.

Do you think Bill was scared of the rookie kicker, especially after a wonky PA make?

Belichick is always known for his more aggressive (and at times questionable) play calls, so I don't think this had anything to do with a lack of confidence in rookie kicker Chad Ryland.

Brady Freeland

What's with the Pats inability to close out close games in the past couple of years?

Everybody knew that when Brady left, it was going to take time to rebuild and that is what we have seen the last few years. Sunday's season opener was a prime example of their inability to close out games. But I think that their ability to bounce back and make it as close a game as it was is a positive and can lead to that next step of securing the win.

Will the eventual return of DeVante Parker hurt the likes of Kendrick Bourne or the rookies Kayshon Boutte and Demario Douglas more (in terms of individual production)?

I wouldn't necessarily say that Parker's return is going to hurt some of the other receivers. The Patriots have appeared to build their offense this offseason around having numerous different targets and weapons on offense. Bourne was Jones' top target in Sunday's season opener, but his skillset differs from Parker and therefore, they can both bring a lot to the table. As for the rookies, they are still learning and will continue to get reps, but it's important for the veterans to be involved in the game and help them learn.

After one week, should the Patriots be worried about JuJu Smith-Schuster? Is there more to his knee than what's being reported?

I don't think there is anything to be worried about on the injury front, with the receiver not showing up on the injury report this week. However, the one question that remains is why wasn't he involved in the final fourth down play in the season opener, where the Patriots opted to go with Kayshon Boutte instead. Sunday's game against the Dolphins will be very telling to see if Smith-Schuster is more involved, especially if Parker remains out.

Sam Beatty

Were there any questions from the off-season that were answered after last Sunday's loss to the Eagles? Any new questions surrounding the team after last week's performance?

The main problem area during the preseason was the offensive line and while we saw some rookies get their debut due to injury, that question has yet to be answered due to the new names that are popping up on the injury report.
