The New England Patriots have made the necessary roster cuts after their latest round of signings.

Linebacker DaMarcus Mitchell and long-snapper Tucker Addington have been waived by the Patriots, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.

This came after the Patriots signed linebacker Carson Wells on Monday, along with bringing in top free agent running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Mitchell signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent last season and made the 53-man roster as a special teamer after training camp. MassLive's Chris Mason reported that Mitchell "is healthy right now," and "this was just a roster decision from Bill Belichick."

He along with Addington, who appeared in three games for New England last season after Joe Cardona was placed on injured reserve, were cut ahead of the Patriots second preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

Two moves were expected after the reported signings of Wells and Elliott, and now the Patriots roster is back to 90.

The addition of Elliott made headlines after the Patriots signed him to a one-year deal that can be worth up to $6 million with incentives. This came after he visited with the Patriots at the end of July.

And according to one former Patriot, Bill Belichick has also appreciated what Elliott brings to the table.

"I know Bill Belichick has talked about some of the best backs in the league and I know he's a big fan of Zeke," James White said on SiriusXM Radio. "Whenever we would compete against those guys, he would always talk about how much he wanted to have him on his roster."

Elliott and Wells are expected to travel with the team from joint practices against the Packers this week.
