Why did Matthew Slater think Tom Brady was 'Looney Tunes' after 2015 Super Bowl victory?

New England Patriots legends Matthew Slater and Tom Brady have certainly made some memories together.
However, one moment that Slater will never forget came on Feb. 1, 2015 when the Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks in dramatic fashion during Super Bowl XLIX.
"I remember after winning my first Super Bowl in 2015 when we beat the Seattle Seahawks and I was in the locker room for an hour or so after the game, and I make my way over to Tom and I said, 'We did it! We got you your fourth ring. And I finally get one,'" Slater said in an interview with Optimize Mind Performance. "And he looks at me with a half smile and says, 'Now we have to go get another one."
"I'm thinking to myself, this guy's Looney Tunes," Slater added. "I'm going to go enjoy my Super Bowl, and he should be enjoying his fourth. But as much as he was joking at that moment, he wasn't. He was dead serious."
It's no secret that the Patriots Way is centered around winning and much of that is due to the duo of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
When Belichick took over the Patriots in 2000, Brady was drafted that same year, going in the sixth round, 199th overall.
And what occurred afterwards was something no one could have predicted.
Prior to Slater joining the team in 2008, Brady had already picked up three Super Bowl victories in 2002, 2004, and 2005. And he finally got his fourth in 2015.
Yet that didn't change anything about the dynamic on the team.
"And then during the offseason, it was like we hadn't even won the thing," Slater said. "He was working like he had never won a Super Bowl in his life."
However, that mentality clearly worked as Slater picked up an additional two Super Bowl wins in New England while Brady finished with six before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"The same can be said about Coach Belichick. The hours he puts in are incredible," Slater said. "And that sends a message of, if you want to be known as great at what you do, there's a cost that's involved with that, and you've got to be willing to pay it."
Slater is still going strong, entering his 16th season with the Patriots, while Brady retired following the 2022 season. Yet there is no disputing that both of these players will go down as some of the best in Patriots history.
Optimize Mind Performance is a platform that provides content from mental health coaches and athletes "in achieving peak performance and maximum success through mental skills training."
Slater was chosen for this, with a narrated video of him appearing on their Instagram page.
The whole video was centered around success, with Slater posing one final question at the end.
"So take this moment to ask yourself, what are you willing to do to have success?" Slater said at the end of the video.
