DeAndre Hopkins visit with the Patriots

DeAndre Hopkins visit with the New England Patriots has caused quite a stir and one NFL insider joins the mix to voice his opinion.

While there were reports Wednesday morning that the Patriots were optimistic that Hopkins visit would result in a signing, Ian Rapaport isn't so sure

"I would even be a little bit surprised if a deal gets done with the Patriots, whose visit is today and tomorrow, because if you're DeAndre Hopkins, similar to what we talked about with Dalvin Cook, waiting makes sense," Rapaport said on Inside Minicamps on NFL+. "I think for DeAndre Hopkins, get all the information you possibly can today and tomorrow and maybe sit back a little bit to consider your options."

Hopkins came to New England following a visit with the Tennessee Titans, but no deal was made while he was there. That remained very good news for the Patriots, with whom he meeting with on Wednesday and Thursday.

"It did sound like the Titans visit was very positive for DeAndre Hopkins. I did not expect a deal to get done around the time of his visit."

Rapaport added that he believes it would be in Hopkins best interest to hold out a little longer, with so much uncertainty remaining about what the roster needs of each team will be.

"You have no idea what's going to happen over the next month, maybe even early into training camp," Rapoport said. "Maybe a need arises."

The Patriots currently have $14.2 million in cap space, which does seem to fit within the scope of what Hopkins is asking for. And that number has the possibility to go up, with New England most likely to release another receiver if they were to sign Hopkins.

The receiver missed time last season due to a PED suspension but still caught 64 passes for 717 yards with three touchdowns in nine games.

Another weapon for Mac Jones will certainly be welcome, but it remains unclear whether Hopkins will be in a Patriots uniform by the end of the week.
