The New England Patriots' week got off to a scary start as tight end Mike Gesicki suffered a shoulder injury on Monday and was forced to leave the practice field.
However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting that Gesicki suffered a "mild dislocated shoulder during (Monday's) practice." The report also indicates "the hope is he's back for Week 1 despite the AC joint injury."
All in all, that has to be a huge sigh of relief for the Patriots, who were watching Gesicki rise with strong showings in training camp.
A to Z Sports' Sophie Weller provided on-site coverage of the injury in her practice takeaways:
During a 1-on-1 tackling drill, Mike Gesicki was brought down by Jahlani Tavai and immediately grabbed his shoulder following the play. He was helped off the field by the trainers and left practice.
Back in March, Gesicki signed a one-year deal with the Patriots worth $4.5 million with the potential to make another $4.5 million in incentives.
Those incentives are significantly dependent on playing time so you know the new Patriots weapon will work as hard as possible to be back on the field by Week 1. Gesicki can earn incentives based on receptions, receiving yards, and playing time.
Hopefully, he's ready to go in time for the Patriots to use him when they host the NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles on September, 10th.
