FOXBOROUGH, MA –The New England Patriots announced their captains for the 2023 season on Friday.

Six players were voted by the team, with one player getting his first nod as a team captain in his NFL career.

Here are the six team captains:

  • QB Mac Jones
  • ST Matthew Slater
  • C David Andrews
  • DL Deatrich Wise Jr.
  • LB Ja’Whaun Bentley
  • TE Hunter Henry

Belichick praised the teams selections on Friday morning, when speaking with the media.

"It's a really good group," Belichick said. "Proud of the guys that the team selected. They are all offseason program winners. Guys that have really been strong performers all the way through, going back to April."

And for Hunter Henry, the tight end is entering his third season with the Patriots and has taken on some leadership amongst the team. This is the first time in his NFL career that he was selected as a captain.

"He's done a great job. Works hard. Out there everyday. Smart guy. Proactive player. Good player. Good to have him," Belichick said. "He's one of our best players and he's a very dependable player. Smart, makes a lot of good decisions. Experienced. Everything's pretty good on and off the field. Well respected."

Slater was selected for the 13th time in his career as a team captain, but the team will be without Devin McCourty who has been a staple in the locker room for many years.

However, they have selected a solid group of veterans that can help motivate and lead the team this season.
