FOXBOROUGH, Mass – One of the biggest storylines in the NFL this season surrounds the New England Patriots quarterback situation. With Mac Jones having been benched during the past two games, the question that began to come up is whether he remains the starter.

And Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien has weighed in with his expectations on that when speaking with the media on Tuesday morning.

"Yes, I do," O'Brien said when asked if he anticipates Jones will be the starter against the Las Vegas Raiders this weekend.

This has been a rough season for Jones, who has now been benched and replaced by Bailey Zappe during the last two weeks. And Sunday was especially rough after the New Orleans Saints prevented the Patriots from getting anywhere near the end zone, ultimately shutting them out (at least they were able to get three points on the board against Dallas).

However, O'Brien stood up for the third-year quarterback.

“It’s not about one guy," he said. "He’ll be the first to tell you there are things he can do better.”

And O'Brien added that Jones arrives at the facility early every day to put in additional work, even showing up on Monday when the players were off.

So his confidence in Jones remains, regardless of what has happened the past few weeks.

The Athletic's Jeff Howe also reported that this is an "important week of practice" for Jones because the team is going to "evaluate every position on the roster on the heels of the worst two losses of Bill Belichick's career."

And the stat line for Jones during those two games have not been pretty, with the quarterback recording six turnovers.

In the loss Jones finished the day going 12-for-22 for 110 yards and two interceptions before being replaced by Zappe.

And with that fans clearly were upset over the offense's performance, booing Jones when he came on and off the field. Zappe chants began during the game, and when the backup quarterback took the field, there was a loud cheer throughout the stadium.

Leading up to the Saints game, Zappe reportedly took more snaps during practice last week, but a change in terms of the starting quarterback was "not imminent."

Howe further added that if Zappe had been able to give the offense a spark, the decision would be tougher for the coaching staff this week.

Zappe has served as Jones' backup for two seasons now and has proven that he can handle himself in games. After Jones was injured last season he came in and helped lead the team to two victories before the starting quarterback was ready to return.

And with Jones also struggling last season, many fans began to support Zappe as the starting quarterback.

But as it stands, Jones will once again be leading the team on Sunday barring any major changes.
