New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft addressed reporters on Thursday afternoon with four of the team's new free-agent signings sitting in the audience.

But, before he began talking about the new players, Kraft took a moment to speak about long-time captain David Andrews, who was released by the Patriots after 10 years.

"I'd be remiss if I didn't first acknowledge a departure. Today we released our two-time Super Bowl champion and one of my favorite players ever to come through our locker room, David Andrews," Kraft expressed. "David has been an integral part of the Patriots for the past decade, including the past eight years he was a captain of the team. He was just not a leader in the locker room, but he was an outstanding individual in the community and very special.

"On a personal level, I was able to spend time with him, with David and his incredible wife Mackenzie, on a trip to the Holy Land, and really got to know them very well five or six years ago. He's just a very special guy. It's the hard part of this business when you have to release people."

Andrews also took a moment to thank the organization with a post on Instagram.

"Thank you @patriots I will always cherish the memories relationships on and off the field and what we accomplished,” Andrews posted to his Instagram story. “The best 10 years me and @mackandrews_ could ever ask for. I’ll always be a Patriot."
