Over the past few days, a few former New England Patriots players have publicly expressed their disappointment with the release of "The Dynasty” docuseries. Robert Kraft is just the latest to join the discussion.
At the NFL Annual Meeting, Kraft spoke with reporters and was asked his thoughts. He didn't hold back.
While he admitted that he "loved" the first three episodes, it started to go downhill as the series took a negative spin while detailing all the controversy that occurred during the 20 years with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady leading the way.
“I felt bad that there was so much emphasis on the more controversial and, let’s say, challenging situations over the last 20 years. I wish they had focused more on our Super Bowl wins, our 21-game win streak,” Kraft said (via the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed). “I felt bad there were players who gave hours and hours of interviews, and they felt only the negativity — people like Devin McCourty and Rodney Harrison and Matthew (Slater). Although, I didn’t — I just heard quietly that they’ve all felt that way.
"Actually there were some really prominent people who were interviewed for hours that never were used. So a little disappointed that there wasn't more of a real positive approach – especially for Patriot fans who have lived the experience with us."
McCourty and Harrison were the first notable members to speak out against the series. And it was important for Kraft to take note of that and address it.
Plus, many people had suspicions that the entire thing was done by Kraft considering how he was praised, while Bill Belichick was made to be the scapegoat. But he took a moment to defend the former head coach.
“Look, I'll state this clearly: I feel so privileged that we had Bill here. And you know, we hope when he’s finished that we’re gonna have a chance to honor him the way we did — we will do with Tom Brady this year,” Kraft said. “You know, we did this little ceremony at halftime of the Eagles game, but it was not adequate. And we look forward to being able to celebrate putting him into the Patriots Hall of Fame: six, twelve, twenty-four (June 12). I love forward to the privilege of putting Bill into the Patriots Hall of Fame one day in the future."
