One big question remained on Sunday after the New England Patriots loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Despite not appearing on the inactive list, J.C. Jackson was not seen on the sidelines throughout the game. Instead, rookie Alex Austin was told just moments before the beginning of the game that he was going to get the start.

It was later reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter that Jackson did not play against the Chiefs due to mental health issues he is dealing with.

And on Tuesday, the Patriots placed the cornerback on the reserve/non-football illness list.

Jackson's spot went to running back Kevin Harris who was previously on the practice squad. He was elevated in Sunday's game, scoring a touchdown for the Patriots, and now he's rewarded with a spot on the active roster.

The Patriots also announced a series of other transactions, having claimed quarterback Nathan Rourke off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars, along with signing defensive back William Hooper and running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn to the practice squad.

Mental health is a very serious issue so it's very important that Jackson is taking some time to make sure he is okay. This move will most likely mean Jackson is sidelined for the remainder of the 2023 season.

It has been a hard season for Jackson who has dealt with some other issues since joining the Patriots. He was benched for part of the game during New England's loss to Washington and then was forced to stay home while the team traveled to Germany the following week.

It was later confirmed that it was disciplinary, with Jackson explaining that it was because he missed “bed checks” at the Patriots team hotel prior to their game against the Commanders.

However, he put all that behind him and returned to the field.

But now he will step away on his own accord.
