The New England Patriots traded quarterback Joe Milton to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday morning, but the latest report shows how much of a class act the organization truly is.
NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reports that the Las Vegas Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, and Pittsburgh Steelers were also interested in the second-year quarterback, but ultimately it was the Cowboys who landed him.
However, that wasn't because Dallas had the better deal.
Schultz added that New England had a better offer for Milton, but they made the trade with the Cowboys because that's where Milton preferred to go. And that's because he has ties to Dallas.
“My family grew up a Cowboys fan," Milton told Schultz. "My mom always had a Cowboys shirt on. She always talked about them. Living in Texas has been a longtime dream of mine. And now I’m with them. I’m ready to work.”
Earlier this week, it was reported that there was "motivation on the player’s side to be moved" and that he preferred "to be on a roster that gives him a chance to compete for the starting job," per MassLive.
While it's very unlikely he will get that starting job with Dallas since they have Dak Prescott, the Cowboys needed a backup and now they have one. That also gives Milton a better chance to see some time and get increased reps in practice.
A to Z Sports' Cowboys reporter explained why this was a good move for the Cowboys.
"A big part of evaluating this move is realizing the Cowboys paid very little to acquire Milton. By giving up a fifth-rounder while getting a seventh-rounder back, this move will have minimal impact on the team's Draft in April," he wrote. "Overall, it's a solid move for a quarterback with high-upside, though fans should temper expectations about his play for it's quite flawed as of now."
All in all, it worked for every side.
