The New England Patriots took the field at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday following a day of stress and surprises.
NFL teams had to cut their rosters to 53 players, waiving the others. If they were not claimed by 12 p.m. ET on Wednesday, teams could then add them to the practice squad.
And both the active roster and members of the practice squad were out on the field together.
The only absences from practice were receiver DeVante Parker, receiver Tyquan Thornton, and offensive lineman Riley Reiff.
The Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan reports that Parker is said to be "fine" after being in attendance for the start of practice on Tuesday. As for Thornton (shoulder) and Reiff (right knee/leg), their absense could mean they are potentially going to be placed on injured reserve.
If Thornton and Reiff were placed on injured reserve, they would be forced to miss at least four games, but would be able to return during the season.
Along with a look at the 53-man roster, many confirmed and non-confirmed players were out there, showing what could be the Patriots practice squad.
Tight end Pharaoh Brown was reportedly signed to the practice squad and there was a new No. 86 on the field, with many thinking that it was Brown.
Running back Ty Montgomery, running back Kevin Harris, tight end Matt Sokol, and LB Joe Giles-Harris were seen out on the field, but their status has not be confirmed. However, it does seem likely they are on the practice squad.
And one of the biggest surprises of cutdown day came when the Patriots waived backup quarterback Bailey Zappe. It became clear that the Patriots intended to bring him and quarterback turned wide receiver Malik Cunningham back on the practice squad, but they had to first pass through waivers.
While it was a risky move, it worked out in Belichick's favor.
Here is a full look at the Patriots practice squad following Wednesday's practice:
