For any quarterback, being drafted by the New England Patriots can be very difficult. And that is because of the high expectations that were set by future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady.
He went from the 199th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft to a seven-time Super Bowl champion, winning six of those with the Patriots. And even after he left, fans weren't ready to let go of all that success.
The team brought in Mac Jones, but that didn't work out and ultimately ended with him being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
So this past year, new head coach Jerod Mayo used the third overall pick to bring in former UNC star quarterback Drake Maye. And things were made extra sweet when the rookie got to meet Brady at the NFL’s rookie premiere in Los Angeles.
A photo of the two was even posted on social media, and fans went crazy. Brady even took a moment to troll them a little bit.
"Just two guys having brunch.. calm down everyone 😂," he posted on his Instagram story.
But now it was time to hear from Maye about this exciting moment.
Speaking with reporters for the first time since his trip, Maye was asked about his meeting with Brady. And he had high praise for the former Patriots quarterback.
“It was awesome. Getting a chance to be around Tom, see how he’s wired: He’s wired different,” Maye told reporters after Tuesday's practice. “He’s ‘The GOAT.’ So just getting a chance to hear some wisdom from him is an awesome experience. Looking forward to hopefully asking him some more questions.”
So will he be in attendance on Wednesday as the Patriots honor Brady by inducting him into the Hall of Fame.
"Yeah, on June 12th. I hope to at least be their in support. I think that's the biggest thing. It's Tom Brady, it's hard to miss out on that," Maye added.
Details About Tom Brady's Hall of Fame Induction
The New England Patriots will be holding a ceremony inside of Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, June 12th to honor Tom Brady.
At last year's season opener, Robert Kraft had a short ceremony during halftime and announced that the four-year wait period would be waived and Brady would be inducted on 6/12/24.
The date signifies the six Super Bowl championships he won as a Patriots and No. 12 which he wore for his entire career.
The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. ET and many of Brady's former teammates are expected to be in attendance.
