MIAMI, FL – Losing isn't fun.

And unfortunately, the New England Patriots know that all too well right now.

With a 3-9 record through Week 12, its has been a rough rookie season for both head coach Jerod Mayo and quarterback Drake Maye. While some of the losses have come down to the final minutes, Sunday's loss to the Dolphins was ugly.

For Maye, he has won a lot of football games throughout his life. So he was asked how he's handling the struggles right now.

"It's tough," Maye responded candidly. "Any time you are losing, I think — like I've always said, I hate losing more than I really like to win. Losing sucks."

But he decided to put a positive spin on this experience that the team is going through, and used it as motivation when addressing the team.

"I think just — I told some guys, just remember this feeling. Remember this feeling of really getting our butts whooped today, and it's only up from here," he added. "We have a bright future and bright players in there that are going to make some plays for the Patriots."

The coaching staff has applauded Maye for his leadership despite being so young. He has truly taken on the role of the starting quarterback.

Despite any personal success he might have, it's always about the team first. And even if he may not be at fault, Maye never throws his teammates under the bus, always being the one to take the blame.

While the records are similar, the reason this season is so different from last year is because of Maye. The quarterback brings excitement and hope back for fans, proving that the future is bright.

And this is just another example of his leadership.

The Patriots got this one right.
