An aura that clouded the 2022 season was felt again by many as early day one of Patriots mini-camp. There were question marks surrounding the offensive coaching hires and the team struggled to "get it going" offensively.

The early vibes of this offseason program feel much different. The players seem more cheery in post-practice interviews and the intensity feels amplified. The players know they're coming off a disappointing season and futures could be on the line if they can't show improvement.

That was abundantly clear today with Mac Jones referencing the players buying into the improved Bill O'Brien offense when he said  “There’s a good juice around the building.”

Jones spoke glowingly of Bill Belichick, whom some have speculated he could have a challenging relationship with, “We have a great coaching staff. I’ve been blessed to work with some really great coaches…I always ask questions. OB (Bill O’Brien) has been great with that, coach Belichick has been great with that.”

Jones seemed to be having fun and laughed when asked about the word "tempo" being shouted towards the defense. He acknowledged that it happened during the end of today's practice, even though the pace was supposed to be slowed down. However, Phillips and Dugger appeared to take "tempo" seriously, as both players intercepted him.

Jones has been impressive through the non-contact portion of off-season activities. He's completed 89% of his passes through several days and has been creating some highlights on offense.

It should be an encouraging sign to fans that the team has operated like Mac Jones is the starter and he is reciprocating that energy by taking a positive leadership role to help grow the offense. O'Brien and Jones have been working together consistently, and maybe that was all the team needed to take the next step and be competitive again. Time will tell.
