The New England Patriots wasted no time bringing back a familiar face.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Patriots have signed Will Grier to the practice squad. This comes just a few days after the waived him prior to New England's matchup against the New York Giants.
Grier's spot immediately went to OT Conor McDermott, who was out of practice squad elevations.
By bringing him back, Grier will have another opportunity to compete for the starting role this Sunday, with both Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe having not proved to be the answer.
He signed with the Patriots at the end of September off the Cinncinati Bengals practice squad and has primarily served as the third-string quarterback behind Jones and Zappe.
Grier began his career with the Carolina Panthers, being selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He then went to the Dallas Cowboys before his short stint with the Bengals.
After Sunday's game, Belichick was asked if he planned to bring Grier back.
"We’ll see," is all the head coach said. "We won’t know his status until Monday at 4."
It was then reported by MassLive's Chris Mason that Grier was going to take some time and explore his options as a free agent. But it seemed New England was the best fit for him once again.
The quarterback situation remains a mystery heading into Week 13, so let's see how Grier does now that he's on the practice squad.
