The timeline for Tyquan Thornton's return has become a little more clear.

The Boston Herald's Doug Kyed reports that Thornton is "not anticipated to be out for long" after he suffered a shoulder injury during the preseason.

Thornton was placed on injured reserve to start the 2023 season, having to sit out for at least four weeks before returning.

This is Thornton's second season in the league and with the Patriots, and it is also the second straight year he is beginning the season on injured reserve.

The injury occurred during the first joint practice with the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 17, with Thornton making a diving catch from Mac Jones. He landed hard on his shoulder and immediately left practice.

He avoided being waived on cutdown day, making the initial 53-man roster before being placed on injured reserve.

Last season, Thornton broke his collarbone during the Patriots second preseason game. He finished his rookie season with 22 receptions for 247 yards and two touchdowns across 13 games.

With the open spot on the roster, the Patriots signed former Panthers quarterback Matt Corral who will serve as the backup to Mac Jones. They also filled the last spot on the practice squad, signing former Eagles first-round receiver Jalen Reagor.

Thornton has a lot of promise and his speed makes him a dangerous weapon for the Patriots, so they will be happy to have him back with the team soon.
