Things went from bad to worse for the New England Patriots on Monday morning.
Kendrick Bourne, who has been the team's top receiver this season, will now be sidelined after tearing his ACL in the Patriots' loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports.
Bourne went down after getting tackled by Eli Apple on third-down early in the fourth quarter. He remained down on the ground, grabbing his right leg and immediately took his helmet off. In clear discomfort, the trainers rushed over to him and he was able to walk off the field on his own.
He briefly went into the blue medical tent, but headed to the locker room soon after and was ruled out for the game.
The Patriots "hoped" it was only his MCL that was injury according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, but the news they received was much worse.
Bourne has been the Patriots' top receiver this season, with 37 receptions for 406 yards and four touchdowns. This included a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins, getting New England on the board first.
The star receiver is in the final year of his contract and was a possible trade candidate with the deadline approaching. Yet, the expected recovery for a torn ACL is six to eight months.
