New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones can now wear the number he donned as a junior and senior at Arizona State.

The NFL approved a new rule allowing quarterbacks, punters, kickers, defensive backs, running backs, fullbacks, tight ends, H-backs, wide receivers and linebackers to wear No. 0. Jones, who wore No. 0 in 2020 and 2021, immediately tweeted a bunch of star-eye emojis and the word donut in response to the rule.

Jones wore No. 13 as a rookie fourth-round pick in 2022. Players need to buy back jerseys for sale if they’re going to switch numbers in the NFL. That shouldn’t be a massive problem for Jones, who was certainly solid in 13 games and two starts last season, but his jerseys weren’t exactly on shelves to fly off of.

Jones was a playmaker as a rookie with two interceptions, six pass breakups, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, three tackles for loss and a touchdown. He missed time with a knee injury and was suspended one game at the end of the season.

As the Patriots’ roster is currently constructed, Jones looks primed to start at cornerback along with Jonathan Jones and fellow 2022 rookie Marcus Jones, a third-round pick out of Houston.
