Jerod Mayo continues to look outside the organization as the new Patriots head coach begins to build his coaching staff.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots have requested to interview Atlanta Falcons special teams coach Marquice Williams.

This comes after the Patriots also put in a request to interview Panthers outside linebackers coach Tem Lukabu for their open defensive coordinator job.

Williams was also requested by the New York Giants, but it was blocked by the Falcons. However, with the Patriots, he has ties to one former coach.

He served as the assistant special teams coach for the Detroit Lions during the time that Matt Patricia was head coach.

Williams made his break into the NFL with the Chicago Bears in 2013 as the Bill Walsh NFL diversity coaching fellowship. He served in the same position with the Detroit Lions in 2015.

In 2016 he was hired as the assistant special teams coach for the Los Angeles Chargers and was moved to defensive assistant in 2018.

He returned to the Lions as an assistant special teams coach in 2019 and remained there for two seasons before taking the job with the Falcons as special teams coordinator.

He certainly has plenty of experience and with Patriots special teams being one of the areas they need help with, this could be a great move by Mayo.

Along with that, the two could have possibly met when they served as coaches at the Shrine Bowl last year.
