The New England Patriots are already a little familiar with New York Giants quarterback Tommy Devito.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Patriots expressed interest in signing Devito to their practice squad prior to the start of the season, but the quarterback opted to stay with Brian Daboll and the Giants.
"At final cuts when he was waived before being added to the practice squad, the Patriots inquired about the chance for him to join their practice squad," Garafolo reported.
Garafolo also reported that the Washington Commanders not only showed interest as well, but offered Devito "significantly more guaranteed money" than the Giants did. However, he wanted to stay close to home.
Devito went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, but signed with the Giants in April. He was waived as part of final roster cuts, but was signed to the practice squad shortly after.
He made his NFL debut at the end of October, coming in for Tyrod Taylor who suffered an injury in the second half of their game against the New York Jets. Two days after that game, Devito was signed to the active roster.
Daniel Jones returned in Week 9, but suffered a season-ending injury during the game and Devito came in to replace him. With Jones now sidelined, Daboll opted to go with Devito as the starter.
Devito lead the Giants to a win over the Commanders last week, and now he will have a chance to beat the one other team that showed interest in him.
This one will surely be interesting.
