Alex Austin has been waiting for his moment to get on the field since coming to the New England Patriots.

The rookie signed with the Patriots on Nov. 2, and it felt like a dream come true for the young cornerback who has a big tie to New England.

And in New England's win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night, Austin was out on the field for the first time. And even had a chance to come away with a major takeaway.

On a crucial third down, Austin was tasked with covering Steeler's receiver Diontae Johnson. Not only did Austin read Johnson's route well, but he stepped in front of the receiver after noticing that the ball from Mitch Trubisky was under-thrown.

Austin dove to the ground, trying to snag the ball and get the interception in his first game out there, but the ball bounced off of him.

After not getting the interception, Austin had a clear message to the public.

"I owe y’all one smhhh," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Austin is currently on his third team since being drafted in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He began with the Buffalo Bills, but was waived as part of final roster cuts. The Houston Texans then claimed him off wavers, but he was waived and re-signed to the practice squad in the middle of October. They officially released him at the beginning of November.

And now he's with the Patriots, which seems to be the perfect fit.

With four games left, maybe he can get that interception.
