The New England Patriots are already seeing big returns from their round rookie.
The former Oregon Duck, who was drafted 17th overall in this past April's draft, is already playing at a high level. Per PFF, Gonzalez is the third highest-graded CB in the entire NFL through three weeks, amongst CBs with at least 100 snaps.
The competition hasn't been easy either. In his first NFL game, he held AJ Brown and Devonta Smith to a combined 71 yards. In week two, Gonzalez limited receivers Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill to just 32 yards in total. In week three, facing Garrett Wilson and company, he allowed only 45 yards. Furthermore, he hasn't allowed a single touchdown and has showcased his versatility as an athlete by recording a sack, making numerous big stops and being a sure tackler.
Stats aside, people around the league are taking notice. In a recent podcast interview, Tyreek Hill shared his thoughts on Christian Gonzalez. "I was able to against their rookie(Gonzalez), he is real good, very length corner. Had some real good technique and speed about him."
It doesn't stop there either. Dallas Cowboy's offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer had some strong thoughts on the Patriots first round pick, "If there's a better young corner in the league than Gonzalez, you'd be hard-pressed to find. He's playing at a really high level."
Former NFL player and highly respected NFL Network film analyst Brian Baldinger also had some very positive comments about Gonzalez's game tape.(VIDEO INCLUDED BELOW).
