A Bill Belichick hater has entered the Lamar Jackson conversation.

Former New England Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel tweeted out a message to Jackson on Thursday in response to rapper Meek Mill telling team owner Robert Kraft that Jackson wanted to play for the franchise. Jackson announced this week that he requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens.

“Lamar Jackson, my brother trust me you don’t want to play for Belichick,” Samuel tweeted out.

Samuel was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft and played five seasons, winning two Super Bowls, in New England. Samuel has been critical of Belichick and the Patriots since the team placed the franchise tag on him in 2007. The next season, he signed a six-year, $56 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

“All of them is company men, talking about Patriot Way,” Samuel said in 2022 on the “I AM ATHLETE” podcast, via MassLive.com. “I don’t know none of that. I’m here to get money, take care of my family, the same way Belichick is here to take care of his family, get his money. So when you try to hold my money back and you want all your money, I ain’t got no respect for you.”

Jackson received a non-exclusive franchise tag from the Baltimore Ravens. The Patriots could sign Jackson to an offer sheet, and if the Ravens don’t match, ship two first-round picks to Baltimore in exchange for the former MVP QB. They also could work out a separate trade for Jackson if he signs the franchise tag.

A deal is unlikely, a source said last week, because it would be difficult to make the money work in a deal for Jackson. They have limited salary cap space this season, and it's unclear what kind of contract Jackson is looking for since he and the Ravens haven't been able to work out a deal.
