The NFL has placed New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers on the Commissioners Exempt List.

This comes after Peppers was arrested on Saturday morning in Braintree.

"Police said he will be charged with Assault and Battery, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Strangulation, and Possession of a Class “B” Substance," Boston 25's Ryan Breslin wrote.

MassLive's Mark Daniels further reported that police responded to a disturbance at a home early Saturday. Peppers was arrested and will be charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of cocaine.

He was arraigned on Monday in Quincy, pleading not guilty.

Peppers has been ordered to stay away from the alleged female victim, who says the safety "hit her, choked her, took off her clothing and put her outside." She also told officers that Peppers had his hand on her neck and smashed her head against the ball before pushing her down the stairs, according to police reports.

The safety says that he asked the woman to leave multiple times and denies putting his hands on her.

The team released a statement after the news was made public.

"We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time," the team said.

During a radio appearance on Monday, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was also asked about the incident. Here's what he had to say:

"He called me that morning. I knew what was going on," the head coach told WEEI. "We informed the NFL what was going on and we're still gathering information."

So is he still on the team?

"I don't think anyone knows the facts or anything like that. It's a process," Mayo added.

On Monday, Mayo was asked if he's been told that Peppers would be placed on the Commissioners Exempt List.

"We informed the NFL and we're still gathering information. I know the team put out a statement earlier today," he said. "So I'm not sure how the league and how we are going to handle that going forward. But we should find out more information over the next few days"

The head coach confirmed that he has addressed the situation with the other players.

"I've already addressed it with the team, he explained. "As we gather information, I think the players need to know about it so we can learn from whatever happened."

Peppers will still earn his salary, but will not be able to practice or play.
