It was a busy day for two of the New England Patriots' second-year running backs, with Rhamondre Stevenson spending most of the day conditioning rather than taking part in team drills.

It was a good opportunity for Kevin Harris and Pierre Strong, who are both looking to earn a roster spot.

However, there are reports looming that could challenge their chances of making the roster.

The Patriots have been looking to add a veteran running back, having hosted free agent Ezekiel Elliott on a visit last week along with hosting free agents Leonard Fournette and former Rams running back Darrell Henderson for a workout in July.

Elliott's visit reportedly went "very well," which is a good sign for the Patriots who could benefit from adding Elliott.

And on Monday, Strong and Harris were both asked about the possibility of the Patriots signing Elliot.

"It's not my focus, but it would be, it's good to learn from the best and who's been in the game for a long time," Kevin Harris said.

His desire to learn bodes well for the second-year running back, with the Patriots always looking to see this from the younger players.

Harris spent the first part of his rookie season on the practice squad, but was elevated to the active roster in the middle of October. He finished the season with 18 carries for 52 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

And it was clear that he was taking the main snaps on Monday, with Stevenson limited.

As for Strong, he finished his rookie season with 10 carries for 100 yards and one touchdown. And while he commented on Elliott briefly, his main focus is getting better this season.

“He’s a great running back, but I just try to, like I said, focus on me, focus on what I can do and what I can do to help the team out,” Strong said.

Harris and Strong have both looked solid during training camp, but it's no secret that the running back room could benefit from some veteran leadership.

So let's see what happens over the next few weeks.
