The New England Patriots are sending a large crew to see Caleb Williams and other players at USC Pro Day on Wednesday.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports that director of scouting Eliot Wolf, offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt and quarterbacks coach TC McCartney are "leading a Patriots contingent" for the day.

And since McCartney is there, it's pretty clear that the main focus is to see Williams. Let's be honest, that's why so many of the scouts for different teams are there.

But Williams isn't even expected to stay on the board past the first pick. Unless a team makes an offer that the Bears can't refuse, Chicago will land the top quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick.

And that Patriots hold the No. 3 overall. So it wouldn't make sense for them to trade up. Not to mention they can't really afford it since they need all the talent they can get this year.

But you can't blame them for wanting to see what Williams can do.

The USC quarterback did not participate in the NFL Scouting Combine in February, but agreed to throw for scouts, coaches, and executives during Pro Day on Wednesday. However, what the Patriots should be keeping an eye on is the wide receivers that Williams will be throwing to.

It's no secret that besides a quarterback the Patriots need some wide receivers (oh and an offensive tackle).

The Patriots will be busy over the next two weeks as multiple schools are set to hold Pro Days. Jerod Mayo will meet up with the group at Michigan Pro Day on Friday, along with North Carolina and LSU Pro Days next week.

So Wednesday is just the start.
