Patriots sign former Jets player to two-year deal
The New England Patriots signed a former Illinois State standout on Wednesday evening
The New England Patriots added a running back to the roster on Wednesday evening.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that New England is signing former New York Jets running back James Robinson to a two-year deal worth a max value of $8 million.
Robinson, who will turn 25 just before the start of the 2023 season, was non-tendered by the Jets earlier this month after rushing for just 85 yards in four games last season.
The former Illinois State standout was traded to the Jets midseason last year after spending the first two and a half seasons of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars (Robinson rushed for 340 yards on 81 carries in seven games with the Jaguars last season before the trade).
Robinson's best season came as a rookie in 2020 when he rushed for 1,070 yards and caught 49 passes for 344 yards in 14 games. He had the misfortune of playing for Urban Meyer in 2021, which significantly impacted his production.
Robinson should fill the Patriots' No. 2 running back role behind Rhamondre Stevenson.
