FOXBOROUGH, Mass – Mike Onwenu has been moved around so many times this season on the offensive line, and it looks like this week is no different.
After moving between tackle and guard on the right side, it seems the coaching staff is now moving him to the left side.
Onwenu has been seen taking snaps at left guard next to starting tackle Vederian Lowe throughout Wednesday and Thursday heading into the Patriots' Week 10 matchup against the Chicago Bears.
With all the focus on Onwenu's switch, A to Z Sports spoke with Lowe about what he's seen from his teammate this season given all the changes.
"It's a true testament to him. He's a real pro," Lowe said. "It's not easy at all to do what he's doing. And all offensive lineman know that it is not easy at all. True testament to how he has handled everything.
"A true professional. We're really lucky to have him in our room."
Playing different positions on the offensive line takes different skills, so Lowe is doing everything in his power to make this switch as easy as possible for Onwenu. And a lot of that is because they formed an immediate connection.
"Me and Mike, he was one of the first people that I locked in with when I first got here last season," Lowe expressed. "So the chemistry is already there."
"It's really about him just getting comfortable as it's a different side for him and what he's accustomed to playing," he added. "So I just want to make sure that I do my job to the best of my ability to make him more comfortable and make sure he knows that he can count on me and I'll be there for him."
So how exactly can he make Onwenu feel more comfortable on the left side?
"Just communication being precise and clear with who we're working to, where we're going. Making sure that we're all understanding the right calls. Just giving him, so that way he can just go play," Lowe explained. "I like to do my job as in making sure that we're going to the same guy on combination blocks and everything like that.
"Just so I can let Mike be Mike. Do what he does best and that's what I'm going to do. I just try and instill some confidence in him that I'm going to be my best so that way he can just go ahead and play."
