The New England Patriots had the first waiver priority, and they put it to good use on Friday.
Per multiple reports, the Patriots claimed former Pro Bowl pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens.
New England has now brought in additional help after trading edge rusher Josh Uche to the Kansas City Chiefs this season.
Ngakoue was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 where he spent four seasons before requesting a trade. He had traveled around, having stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, and Chicago Bears.
He returned to the Ravens for a second stint this season, signing to the practice squad in September. In Week 6 he was elevated to the active roster and then officially signed in the middle of October.
This season, Ngakoue has five total tackles and 1.5 sacks in five games played.
In 2017, he earned Pro Bowl honors, with 30 total tackles, 12 sacks, six forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
Throughout his career, Ngakoue has 70.5 career sacks, along with 228 total tackles, 21 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and 13 passes defended.
