One New England Patriots wide receiver will no longer be with the team in a matter of days.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots will release DeVante Parker on Wednesday. He has been granted permission to speak with other teams.
Parker was traded to the Patriots in 2022 and signed a contract extension with the team in June 2023. However, his time in New England has come to an end.
The Patriots wide receiver room needed some serious upgrades. And it was clear last season that he did not provide a spark on offense.
In his first season with the Patriots, Parker had 31 receptions for 539 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. Last season, he had 33 receptions for 394 yards and no touchdowns.
This move will result in $6,323,334 in dead money and will save $143,332 in cap space.
Parker is entering his 10th season in the league, having been drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
It was reported prior to free agency by the Boston Herald that the Patriots front office was looking to "offload veterans DeVante Parker and JuJu Smith-Schuster."
And they have already done that with Parker. However, Smith-Schuster is on a bigger contract so that would more likely result in a trade.
The moves will only continue from here.
